It seems as though there are many times where overhauls take place, the old goes away, the new comes in, and the infinite cycle continues. I feel that I am entering yet another today, as I launch the first entry of the new Time Trails blog. Yes, the new one. We have had 3 so far.
But this one is different. I can feel it.
You see, when we launched the very first Time Trails blog, it was called "Every Day Counted". We had just started Time Trails and thought it would be fun to document the first 100 days of running a company. Well, it was fun. It was a lot of work - and naturally we missed a few days. But back then, Time Trails was an idea. A good idea, but still...just an idea. By the final stretch of EDC, this idea had evolved into a working prototype. We had come out of the black hole and had something to show for it. It was a time of transition - we moved to better office, brought in some new personnel, and things were looking good.
What happened? The blog died. I went from blogging to being sucked into the dragons lair of death - basically the world of finding investment capital. If you didn't know already, let me relate to you that finding investment capital in the Mid-West for a high tech, high risk, web based company is very hard. Its like climbing an ice canyon with one hand in a blizzard, uphill both ways, blindfolded and gagged, with vice grips on your brain.
The blog vanished from my world. And with it, a part of my soul.
We brought it back. Nearly 6 months later, the sophomore Time Trails blog re-appeared, and then disappeared just as fast. Unfortunately, when we put the new one out we were in the midst of so many shuffle moves and hectic chaos that it just wasn't a priority anymore.
That's in the past now. There is a HUGE difference in what Im starting today with what we have been doing in the past. Let me list them:
1.) We now have a beta prototype that will be open for limited public testing. This is the actual Time Trails Web App. The bread and butter of what we do - in an early stage, with lots of bugs, very little graphic interface, and not much content. But it works, and will soon take over the world.
2.) We now have a supplementary web page available that walks through the project with video demos, examples, a history, and details on how to get involved with the beta testing.
3.) My hair is longer now.
4.) Our motivation to succeed is higher than it EVER has been. We have been in the lowest pits of darkness at several points during the last year. Our wives have nearly lost their mind. Our minds have nearly lost their mind. So many people have told us we have a great idea but probably couldn't pull it off. So many people have told us that perhaps if we were from the Silicon Valley we might have a chance. They have said that Kansans just dont meddle with technology like this. Im serious, by the way - they are saying that.
5.) Thats bull crap.
6.) We have the means of transforming the way history is learned world-wide. And it just so happens that with it, we've created a way to integrate all types of historical data into our program, providing new visualization tools for companies and industries.
7.) I actually dont remember what I'm listing with these numbers. Just know that we are SO close.
A New Era has Begun. Again.
